"Capacity to Love"
Our capacity to love expands
as our view expands;
our view expands
as we realize what we're not.
We can't love fully
while we feel vulnerable;
we feel vulnerable
while we're a thing apart.
We get a taste of love
for our defenseless babies,
and as children
for our impeccable parents.
Yet it's not true love,
for it doesn't last;
true love
has never abandoned us.
And never will.
